Oscar
stone
14 x 7 x 3 feet
$175,000

“I created ‘Oscar’ from two stones that a sculptor friend salvaged from a construction site in New York City and a stone discarded from a stone quarry in Pennsylvania. Naming a sculpture can prove difficult, but ‘Oscar’ chose his own name: I used a blanket to protect the stone while final grouting and in large letters on the blanket the excess grout spelled out ‘Oscar’.”

Flying Canoe
10 x 9 x 9 feet
black granite
$175,000

“Stone is an ancient building material, and the arch is a classic example of stonework in the past. I am using the weight of the top two elements to hold the bottom two elements up, creating an arch. ‘Flying Canoe’ is a Passamquoddy legend, as it is possible to see in this sculpture the man in the canoe flying over the water.”
