Helene Mukhtar’s work celebrates the human spirit and life on our planet in all it’s forms.
Her preference for bright, vivid colors is rooted in her youth spent in the Mediterranean sun. Her paintings are animated with flat, minimal figurative shapes and bold, expressionist brush strokes. Each character is a participant in a story.
In her latest series, she is exploring the idea of displacement, the passage from one mental state to another, one country to another, a spiritual or physical journey. The sea represents the break, the space to cross to reach a new beginning like a baptism.
